Seabirds off Waihau (pictures)

Cook's Petrel
Cooks Petrels were one of the most common seabirds over the days, with many seen flying past! I saw over 200 on the two days.
-
Broad-billed Prion
Broad Billed Prion had never been recorded in the Bay of Plenty, or even the entire area, but on the second day I saw three! This is some good new info.
-
Australasian Gannet
Gannets were common closer in, especially around workups where there would be hundreds!
-
Common Dolphin
Birds weren’t the only thing we saw; we were treated to some great marine wildlife as well! This included many Common Dolphins, a sunfish, and some fish we caught!
-
White-faced Storm Petrel
There were many White-faced Storm Petrels offshore, with one group of over 40! These energetic birds were awesome to watch as they hopped over the water feeding. They are known as ‘Jesus Birds’ by many fisherman due to this feeding method, as it looks like they are walking on water!

Salvin's Mollymawk
Seeing multiple Salvin’s Mollymawks was a highlight, they aren’t too often seen off the Bay of Plenty!
