Aotea Harbour Winter Census 2024
I joined in on the Aotea Harbour census this winter to help count migratory and native waders. It was also working with the national BirdsNZ Spoonbill Census. Because of this, many teams covered every accessible area around Aotea and Kawhia Harbours. We were assigned Potahi Point, the main wader roost on Aotea. It was a great day with loads of birds and heaps of important data collected. The highlights were seeing large wader flocks, 5 fernbirds, and a Reef Heron!
