October Big Day

eBird’s October Big Day was a success! So far, 45,000 people have submitted eBird checklists from the day, submitting over 100,000 checklists and documenting 7946 species. This sets the new record of most bird species seen in a day! 70,000 photos were shared and over 2,000 audio recordings. 6 of our group members joined in, managing a great total of 67 species from across the country in the 105 checklists we submitted!

Some of the highlights for us over the day included seeing migratory birds such as Shining Cuckoos, Bar-tailed Godwits, and Red Knots, endemic species such as Black-fronted Tern and Bellbirds, and rarities like an Australasian Little Grebe!
